Horses in the Pearl District

Portland artist, Scott Wayne Indiana has been tying up horses to the old horse rings in the Portland lately. He is hoping to get others involved in this project. I've signed up - anyone else? Join us! The Explore the Pearl paper has an article about him (pages 15 and 16). Here is another interesting link (his website):39forks. You can put horses out around town, donate toy horses, cables or connectors, take pictures, post locations on Platial.com, send me GPS coordinates for the ponies or suggest another way to help. Contact me or just go out and do it!

Here are some pictures and the dates I took them.

1/27/06 This first one is located across 9th Ave from the Pearl Bakery (at Couch).

There have been 2 others tied up here since I started looking. This showed up around 3/20/06.

And then this one around 5/01/06 (I think life is hard for horses on this corner - he disappeared on
5/31/06 between 1:00 and 4:30):

As I wander around the Pearl District (in NW Portland), I have found other horses tied up. Here they are:

Taken 2/13/06 - somewhere near 13th and Flanders (but I didn't write it down and now I can't find it)

Taken 3/27/06 I've lost this one - anyone know where it is?

Taken 5/04/06 near the main post office - on Hoyt between 9th and 10th. He's a little flat - this is another
spot where life is hard for the ponies. He is also missing as of 5/31/06.

Taken 5/05/06 at 14th and Hoyt.
North 45 degrees 31.624'
West 122 degrees 41.122' (within 24')

Taken 5/01/06 on Couch between Park and 9th near Emerson School. Missing as of
6/6/06.

Taken 5/03&5/06 on Glisan between 12th and 13th near Byways restaurant (it used to be Shakers)---
This one is missing now (5/19/06)
North 45 degrees 31.581'
West 122 degrees 40.986' (within 27 feet)

and the other side of the same horse. I don't know if the words are part of the original art, or if
someone is vandalizing.

Taken 5/04/06 on 11th between Everett and Flanders - this horse is missing on 5/9/06.

The latest one I've found, taken 5/19/06 on 12th between Glisan and Hoyt - still there 6/6/06:

I've been walking past this one several times a day for some time without even seeing it! I
only found it when the artist told me it was there. It is on 11th at Couch, right outside of
Powell's bookstore. Taken 5/25/06. (I'll update the map later, but check out Platial.com).
This one is also missing as of 6/606.
